Diop worries me.
Great performance last night. 2-1 did not reflect our superiority overall. My big worry however was Diop. He is a big muscular young guy but I thought Wood bullied him constantly throughout the game, especially in the first half Not many Premiership teams play like Burnley in that old fashioned direct long highball way but you know when you go there what to expect. My main complaint with Diop was that he seemed to panic under the high balls and we were a bit fortunate to only concede the one. Dawson on the other hand held things together and I thought had a very good game.

I thought Diop played well. He was good in the air winning a lot of important headers. His passing is improving and he is clearly trusted by his team mates as Fabianski and Dawson passed him a lot of balls to start the move forward up the pitch. He is still young and hopefully will improve. I have a lot of time for him and hope he will do us well in the future.

Chris Wood has scored against us 7 times in the last 8 meetings. Are we blaming Diop for that as well?

Re: Diop worries me.

Totally agree with all that.

And the title of this post, instead of Yarmouth's excessive take on it.

He is different to Arthur, Diop looks like he has to really focus when he is on the ball. Whereas Arthur always looks like he is pissing about with his mates on the park. But they are both prone to lapses, I agree.

I think he is an athletic young defender, who is not confident on the ball and has some stuff to learn positionally. IF he can learn that, he can become an good prem player.

Did some good stuff last night then there were the obvious bad bits too. Over the years he has been mistake prone and lacked concentration at key times. A bit like Arthur.

Re: Diop worries me.
Thought he was a bit poor with his headed clearances which nearly always goes straight to an opposition player or not very far.
He improved in the 2nd half,he held Wood of many times but his headed clearance went straight to a Burnley player for Rodriguez fluffed chance.
I'd be happier with Ogbonna there.

Re: DIOP worries me.
Well we were playing 2-2-6 so think we should give him some slack.

Also Burnley just played the hoof long ball all game .

I prefer Balbuena, he didn't do a lot wrong to find himself out of the side before Dawson came in.

Re: Diop worries me.
He is so gangly, awkward and his positional sense for the two long balls was terrible.

He's still young, I'd put him out on Loan as he's in and out our team a fair bit which probably doesn't help.

He deteriorated after Mourinho described him as a monster

I think we all have concerns and he seems nowhere near as good as he should be so perhaps this Is one of those situations where Moyes needs to work specifically on him to improve. For the money we paid and the sell-on prospects.it would seem to be a no-brainer
.

Re: Diop worries me.
Diop is a worry - quite slow over the ground, and doesn't use his strength as in the incident with Vydra who just shoved him off the ball. If he makes a mistake or the ball gets past him, he shuts down and becomes a spectator instead of looking around to see where damage limitation is needed. I hope that he'll stay, because if he does it will only be because Moyes thinks that he can correct these issues. I wouldn't be surprised to see him transferred out in the summer.

That long ball was caught by the wind then spun and bounced over his head..

Re: Diop worries me.
He had a couple of moments but was able to compose himself. I see him as good back up and potential first choice in the next few seasons. Remember a more experienced Angelo has had his moments in the past but now looks solid. I wouldn't write off Issa just yet.

Re: Diop worries me.
Diop was probably our worst player on the night but mainly because how well everyone else played.

He flapped again at the long ball to Vydra which ended up being cleared off the line by Dawson.

Overall he done ok but needs to be better for the run in.

If we had dropped points last night it would have been completely undeserved and due to us not taking more chances rather than the defence letting us down.

Re: Diop worries me.
Diop fucked up a couple of times on a windy, shitty rainy night against a monster of a forward. He had a word with himself, regrouped and was effective enough that Woods was withdrawn in the second half.

When Ogbonna returns you'll have nothing to worry about anyway. It's Cressy getting injured again that you should save your worries for.

Re: Diop worries me.
He can be a bit eratic at times, one minute he looks solid then just goes AWOL for a second or 2, He has held down his place though, seems to be preffered to Balbeuna at the moment so i think Moyes has faith, chips in with a goal every so often, not sure what isnt to like about him, gives 100% hope he is in the long term plans.

Bit late in the season to be getting worried though?

Re: Diop worries me.
Does some things well but always looks nervous and clumsy on and off the ball. Also gets caught wrong side 2 or 3 times a game which is a big problem for a cb

Re: Diop worries me.
To be fair for the penalty the ball looked dead and Wood cleverly clipped it over his head. Was great play, not really sure what he could have done. He stayed on his feet and didn't dive in.
